        2017-05-19 09:37:00

        WHAT: Media webinar

WHO: Christian Zinglersen, Head of CEM Secretariat

WHEN: Tuesday 23 May - 4:00PM Paris Time

Ahead of the next Clean Energy Ministerial meeting (CEM8), held in Beijing on 6-8 June 2017, the new head of the CEM Secretariat, Christian Zinglersen, will host an on-the-record webinar to review the prospects for clean energy technologies, and how the CEM is entering a new era of shared leadership.

The Clean Energy Ministerial is a partnership of the world's major economies working to accelerate the global clean energy transition. Launched in 2010, it pairs an annual minister-level dialogue with year-round technical work among energy policy experts to drive forward clean energy policy and technology deployment.

This year's CEM8 meeting marks a new start as emerging economies like China and India, Indonesia and Mexico, become more involved in steering the clear-energy transition. Mr Zinglersen will talk about the upcoming meeting and what this new era of shared leadership means and how emerging economies are assuming a greater leadership role in the development and deployment of clean technologies.

Members of the CEM-24 countries and the European Commission-are leading the world in clean energy investment, energy demand, economic growth and innovation. They represent about 90% of global clean energy investment and 75% of global greenhouse gas emissions. They are: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, the European Commission, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Norway, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Christian Zinglersen was named on 1 February 2017 the first Head of Secretariat for the new Clean Energy Secretariat, established at the International Energy Agency in Paris. Previously, he was the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Danish Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate. In that role, Mr Zinglersen was responsible for the energy policy portfolio. He also served as the Danish government's representative and Vice-Chair of the IEA Governing Board.
